Video codecs detect and code redundant information. The higher the compression, the more of the less important information will be removed. Noise and grain is handled as less important information by the encoder and the encoding process is transforming this information into other frequencies. This often leads to high bandwidth requirements and reduces the image quality.

The Netflix 'Meridian' Content will help to optimize video workflows. Noise and grain management is the key for delivering:

ANY VIDEO IN ANY RESOLUTION AND BANDWIDTH IN THE BEST POSSIBLE QUALITY

The still image below shows a side-by-side view of the Netflix Meridian footage (blue channel). Our noise management is highly scalable via GPU's and one of the fastest on the market. It can reduce the noise levels dynamically, so the signal-to-noise ratio will be enhanced. The most important USP of our product is, that we do not smooth the image, but distinguish between the noise/grain and the signal itself.
